Warborn Fantasy Props Collection
The Warborn Fantasy Props Collection marks the beginning of my 3D modeling journey. This project introduced me to professional asset creation workflows — from modeling and UV mapping to texturing and rendering. The objective was to design three fantasy-themed props that could exist within a cohesive medieval environment.
The final collection includes a wooden barrel, a warrior’s longsword, and a tavern mug, all modeled using clean quad-based topology, combined into a single Sketchfab showcase. These assets reflect my early exploration into shape language, texture storytelling, and prop cohesion within a unified visual style.

Project Details
Art Direction & Concept
The chosen fantasy aesthetic draws from a dark medieval tone — one grounded in realism but layered with grit and history. Each prop was envisioned as part of a war-torn environment, perhaps a battlefield camp or a tavern once used by weary soldiers.
To push the atmosphere further, I introduced blood details on the sword and barrel, symbolizing past conflict and giving the props a storytelling presence. The texturing emphasized contrast between worn wood, dulled metal, and fresh stains, creating a grounded yet narrative-driven look.
Prop 1: The Barrel
The barrel served as the foundation for defining the project’s overall tone. Modeled with separate wooden staves and reinforced with metal bands, the structure conveys handcrafted utility and age.
The texturing process in Substance Painter involved multiple wood layers to achieve believable grain variation and wear. The metal hoops were adjusted with roughness and edge highlighting to simulate aged steel, while blood stains were hand-painted along the rim to add narrative tension.
Professor Feedback: Excellent visual storytelling through texture. Suggested improvements include cleaning up n-gons on beveled areas and enhancing metal shine in the roughness and metallic maps for stronger contrast.
Skills Focused: Realistic wood surfacing, blood detail blending, and topology refinement.
Prop 2: The Sword
This longsword was designed to embody elegance and danger — a functional weapon with subtle decorative cues. The blade was modeled using edge beveling and symmetry tools to maintain clean geometry.
The PBR texture set emphasizes worn steel with a mix of polished and dulled areas, achieved through curvature maps and roughness variation. A dark blood smear along the blade reinforces the battle-worn tone.
Professor Feedback: The sword’s modeling was praised for form and proportion. Recommended adjustments included tapering the blade edges for a more natural profile and scaling UVs to maximize texture resolution.
Skills Focused: Metallic surface detailing, UV optimization, and storytelling through damage and blood effects.
Prop 3: The Wooden Mug
The mug provided an opportunity to experiment with smaller-scale details and organic shapes. Its design mirrors the barrel’s construction — wooden staves bound by metal bands, with a carved handle for ergonomic realism.
The texture workflow focused on material contrast between aged wood, oxidized metal, and minor edge wear, helping the mug feel naturally used within a tavern or war camp environment.
Professor Feedback: Well-modeled and proportioned. Metal details could be made more reflective to separate them visually from the wood texture and enhance material variation.
Skills Focused: Small-prop texturing, metal roughness variation, and consistent style execution.
Technical Workflow
Topology: Quad-based modeling for clean deformations and shading
UV Mapping: Single UV layout per prop with optimized space usage
Texturing: PBR workflow (Base Color, Metallic, Roughness, Normal maps)
Presentation: Combined and published in one cohesive Sketchfab scene
Each asset was scaled between 1–12 cubic feet to remain consistent with real-world proportions. The props were organized into a shared lighting setup to unify tone and material balance.
Learning Reflection
As my first 3D modeling project, Warborn Fantasy Props taught me the foundational pipeline of asset creation — from blocking and cleanup to UV optimization and texture refinement. It also introduced the importance of storytelling through material surfaces.
My professor’s critique provided valuable direction for improving edge flow, reflective surface realism, and texture balance — lessons that directly shaped my later projects.
